About Southern Utah
Southern, Utah encompasses a wide variety of towns and cities, with unique and varied landscapes, including our Red Rock mountains the area is most known for. With both Washington and Iron Counties situated in the area. There are small towns and larger cities for those looking for variety when choosing a place to build your new home.
Surrounded by mountains, the Cedar City sits in a valley with an elevation of about 6,000 feet. This Iron County community is about three-and-a-half hours from Salt Lake City and two hours from Las Vegas.
Just south of Cedar City towards the Arizona border is Washington County, and its largest city of St. George. Sitting about 3,000 feet lower than Cedar City, the weather in the St. George area is drastically warmer throughout the year. Red Rock mountains border St. George to the north and to the west.
Northeast of St. George is the town of Hurricane. The region has incredible rock formations and lava fields.
Another suburb to the northeast, the city of Washington, also features incredible views of the valley. Santa Clara, a small suburb of St. George, runs along the Santa Clara river with a population of around 8,000.
The town of Springdale makes up the southwest entrance to Zion National Park. Enterprise, Utah is about 40 miles north of St. George, on the southern portion of the Great Basin. At an elevation of about 5,300 feet, it is primarily an agricultural region.
Southern Utah General Information
The area of Southern, Utah is famous for its stable weather, giving residents the opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities year round. Both the dessert and the Western Rockies are within a short drive of the area. Overall, the climate in Southern, Utah features a lot of sunshine in the summertime, and very little snowfall during the colder, winter months.
Cedar City includes a population of around 21,000 people, and exudes small town charm. On a smaller scale, the community of Enterprise has only about 1,700 residents. Santa Clara, a suburb of St. George, has only around six thousand residents.
Washington, Utah is larger, with around 18,000 residents. While many of these communities are on the smaller side, they are close to the larger community of St. George, which has 75,000 residents. Money Magazine ranked this area as number 63 in the top 100 places to live, in the year 2012.
